It's not an uncommon occurrence.
You have a valid carry permit in Florida or in your home state. And perhaps you go hunting or go shooting and you leave your firearm in a bag. You forget it is there and you pack that bag for a trip. When you are sending it through security at the airport, you get flagged. And your heart drops. Your firearm is in your bag and you just tried to pass it through a TSA checkpoint.
Accidents happen. But the TSA and airport police are usually not as forgiving. If you are at Miami International Airport; Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport; or Palm Beach International Airport - trying to clear a TSA security checkpoint with a firearm in your carry-on bag is a crime.
Whether or not you have a carry permit, it is a misdemeanor to carry a firearm into a TSA checkpoint, which is considered - under Florida law - to be a prohibited area.
If you have been charged with carrying a concealed firearm into a TSA checkpoint in any South Florida airport, call me to discuss your options.
