If you are overly enthusiastic about pursuing a romantic interest, you may find yourself charged with stalking or even worse, aggravated stalking.
Stalking is a misdemeanor; aggravated stalking is a felony.
While your intentions may be good, if the recipient of your communications feels that they are being harassed or bothered in any way, they may have criminal and civil recourse. Criminal, meaning they can contact law enforcement and have you arrested. Civil, meaning they may seek a Permanent Injunction Against Stalking Violence.
Stalking means to "engage in a course of conduct directed at a specific person which causes substantial emotional distress to that person and serves no legitimate purpose."
Aggravated Stalking occurs when somebody stalks another when there is an Injunction in place or issues a credible threat of violence or stalks somebody under 16.
If you are pursuing a romantic interest, please be cognizant of whether the recipient of your affection is reciprocating your communication. If they advise you that they do not wish to speak with you, it is a good idea to cease communication.
If you are charged with Stalking or Aggravated Stalking in Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, or Broward, or you have been served with an Injunction contact me to discuss your options.
