19 Year-Old Miami Man Held Without Bond In Shooting of Two Police Officers

<p>A 19 year-old Miami man is being held without bond in connection with a shooting that injured two undercover Miami-Dade police officers.</p><p>The two officers were allegedly seated in an unmarked car when the 19 year-old, and several others, approached and fired mulitple shots into the car. Both officers were struck but survived. They are expected to recover.</p><p>The 19 year-old allegedly fought with officers while they were trying to detain him. When he appeared in Miami-Dade County bond court, his face was swollen and his right eye was nearly swollen shut. </p><p>In addition to two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, he faces battery on a law enforcement and resisting and officer with violence counts for allegedly fighting with police during his detention and arrest.</p><p>Attempted first-degree murder with the use of a firearm is punishable by life in prison, therefore is considered a non-bondable offense. </p><p><em>Eric Matheny is a Miami criminal defense attorney.</em></p>
