Because police in Miami don't have enough to do...
At a tailgate this past weekend for Florida International University versus Louisiana Tech, police roamed the parking lot citing dozens of underage students who were seen consuming alcohol.
While this may be a colassal waste of time and resources, it still results in an arrest record for the student receiving the criminal ticket (known as a Promise To Appear or PTA).
I have received many calls since Saturday from concerned FIU students about this. This ticket is not the same as a traffic ticket - this is a criminal ticket. If you received one you were technically arrested. This is not something that should be taken lightly. It must be addressed. If not, you could end up with a bench warrant or worse, a permanent criminal record.
Call me if you or someone you know received a citation on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at FIU for alcohol possession by a minor.
