A road rage chase that took place on the streets of Miami-Dade County between a motorcyclist and a motorist has gone viral.
While the facts surrounding what led to the incident are still unclear, the footage shows a motorcyclist weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed, even driving in the opposite lane at times, while he appears to be trying to get away from a man in a car who is intentionally swerving toward the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist and the motorist exchange middle fingers and shouts while the motorcyclist tries to accelerate away from the driver. The driver of the car pulls in front of the motorcyclist on several occasions and even tries to run him off the road.
After the video was posted to YouTube, police in the Miami-Dade County town of Homestead (where the chase occurred) charged both participants with crimes.
The motorcyclist has been charged with reckless driving, a misdemeanor. The man in the vehicle has been charged with both reckless driving and aggravated assault for using his vehicle as a weapon. The aggravated assault charge is a felony carrying a maximum prison term of 5 years.
Eric Matheny is a Miami criminal defense attorney representing clients charged with both reckless driving and aggravated assault.
