Carlos Alvarez, the former mayor of Miami-Dade County, is facing a charge of domestic violence battery after a woman with whom he had been in a relationship accused him of grabbing her.
Alvarez appeared in domestic violence bond court this morning where the judge set his bond at $1,500.
As is the norm in domestic violence cases, the judge imposed a stay-away order, prohibiting Alvarez from having any contact with the alleged victim.
Battery is a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in county jail.
Eric Matheny is a Miami domestic violence attorney and Broward domestic violence attorney.
