A recent report in the Sun Sentinel states that Miami-Dade County law enforcement officers will be cracking down on drivers without insurance.
While driving without insurance is an infraction, crackdowns like these motivate cops to make more traffic stops. And traffic stops can lead to arrests for criminal traffic matters, such as driving while license suspended (DWLS) or other criminal charges, such as possession of marijuana.
A cop cannot pull you over simply because they want to check whether you have insurance. But with "crackdowns" in effect, you can bet that cops will be more likely to find reasons to pull you over.
