A Little Havana man is facing aggravated assault with a firearm charges after being accused of discharging a firearm outside of a restaurant belonging to the accused's ex-girlfriend.
NBC Miami reports that the 37 year-old suspect allegedly made threats to his ex-girlfriend prior to discharging his gun in the street outside of the restaurant.
The accused allegedly made statements to police admitting to pulling his weapon and firing. However, the accused claimed that he pulled his weapon and fired into the air in self-defense after some people approached him while he was arguing with the ex-girlfriend.
Under Florida's 10-20-Life law, the accused can face a 20-year mandatory minimum for discharging the firearm during the commission of a crime.
