While 2013 may be coming to an end, several high-profile crimes that occurred this year in Broward County have not yet been solved.
The Sun Sentinel has published an article highlighting several of the notable crimes that occurred in 2013 that have yet to be solved.
Among those crimes are the violent murders of two Hallandale Beach Canadian retirees, the hit and run death of a six year-old child in Miramar, as well as another hit and run death in Sunrise involving a sixty year-old man.
Broward investigators will continue to look into these crimes in 2014. As for the murders of the Hallandale Beach couple, BSO homicide detectives had determined that both victims were asphyxiated. They were found dead in their home. Due to the discover of missing jewelry in their home, police believe that the motive for their killing was robbery. Police also believe that the couple was specifically targeted. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is following leads but so far, not enough evidence exists to make an arrest.
As for the hit and run deaths, the six year-old boy from Miramar was crossing Miramar Parkway when he was run down by a car that did not stop. A red light camera caught a grainy image of the car but no driver has been identified.
In Sunrise, a sixty year-old man was walking through a crosswalk when he was struck by a car that did not slow down nor stop. No leads so far have resulted in an arrest nor an identification of the driver.
Police agencies do not let cases run cold without exhausting all leads. This may include reviewing any surveillance footage, speaking with witnesses, and having evidence tested for DNA or fingerprints.
