Charges for the individuals involved include racketeering, grand theft, and title fraud.
While the details are unclear at this moment, most car buying scams include changing VIN numbers on vehicles and then reselling them. Many of the vehicles whose VIN numbers are changed are stolen cars.
Those involved in organized crime can be charged under Florida's organized scheme to defraud statute.
