One of the three teens charged in the burning attack on Deerfield Beach teenager Michael Brewer has been sentenced to 11 years in state prison after a jury found him guilty of the lesser-included charge of aggravated battery.
Two of the three teens entered into guilty pleas where they agreed to testify against the third teen. Originally on trial for an attempted murder charge, the jury decided that the evidence only supported a convicted for a lesser-included count of aggravated battery, which is still punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Broward Circuit Court Judge Matthew Destry imposed the sentence. The teen has been in custody since the incident in October of 2009. Charged as an adult, the teen will be sent to prison for 11 years, minus the time he has already served in county jail. With gain time, he should serve another 6 1/2 years.
