According to news reports, Miami Police have identified a suspect in their search for the driver who was wanted for an LSA (leaving the scene of an accident) when it is alleged that the suspect's car went up onto a sidewalk and critically injured a 91-year-old man.
Leaving the scene of an accident is normally a misdemeanor. However, when somebody suffers great bodily harm as a result of the accident, the crime is escalated to a
third-degree felony.
According to Miami Police, the crash occurred at a bus stop at Flagler Street and Northwest 40th Avenue. It is alleged that the accident was picked up by local surveillance cameras.
As a bus slowed down to pick up the alleged victim, the alleged victim was suddenly knocked away by a Toyota 4-Runner.
The driver can be seen in the video opening the door to the 4-Runner, getting out and leaving the scene on foot.
Investigators say that the suspect should never have been behind the wheel of the 4-Runner because his driver's license was suspended due to a 2009 DUI conviction.
It is likely that he will also be charged with DWLS (driving while license suspended).
