As a defense attorney I believe that the most important thing available to a client is information. Now, a good criminal defense attorney should be in constant contact with his or her clients, updating them on their cases. However, anybody accused of a crime, or anybody who knows someone accused of a crime, should be able to access information themselves. In this age of information, here are some helpful websites that may be able to answer your questions.

The Miami-Dade County Clerk's Office utilizes a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) that will allow the public to look up case information based on either the case number, the jail number, or the accused person's name and date of birth. You can look up felonies and misdemeanors for Miami-Dade County using the Miami-Dade Clerk of Court's website.
Miami-Dade County uses a different system for traffic tickets, criminal traffic offenses such as Driving With A Suspended License (DWLS), Reckless Driving, No Valid Driver's License (NVDL), and Valid Driver License Restriction (VDLR), and DUIs. Use this link to look up all DUI, criminal traffic, and traffic ticket information in Miami-Dade County. You must have either the citation number, driver license number, or accused person's name and date of birth in order to use the Miami-Dade Clerk of Court's Traffic Database.

I handle cases from Miramar all the way up to Deerfield Beach, from Fort Lauderdale all the way west to Sunrise. Broward County uses a different system than Miami-Dade. It is actually a more simple database that allows you to look up all types of criminal cases, including non-criminal traffic tickets, and criminal traffic offenses all on one webpage. All you need is the accused person's case or citation number, name, and date of birth in order to access the Broward Clerk of Court's website.
