Reports have surfaced indicating that an employee of the Broward Clerk of Court's Office has been arrested and charged with one count of grand theft in the third degree.
The employee is accused of pocketing fees paid by litigants. Rather than reporting and submitting the fees for payment to the Clerk's Office, the woman is accused of taking the money for herself. The amount in question is about $5,000.
I do not know at this time if she will face additional public corruption charges due to her position.
Grand theft in the third degree ($300 - $20,000) carries a maximum prison sentence of 5 years if convicted.
